Gherao of Forest range office at Tarsing of Jagannathprasad block near Ganjam-Nayagarh border

On 7th January more than 500 tribals and dalits with their traditional arms gheraoed the Forest range office at Tarsing near Ganjam and Nayagarh district border. The programme was organized by Lok Sangram Manch protesting against the harassment of poor tribals at the hand of corrupt forest officials. By 10 am people gathered at the outscrit of Tarsing village and started procession shouting slogan against the anti people policies of both state and central Govts. After the procession reached near the range office people gheraoed it for more than four hours compelling the officials to render apology and to withdraw false cases foisted against the poor tribals and even the leaders of Lok Sangram Manch. Com.Bhala Chandra CEC member of AIKMS addressed the gathering and accused the Govt that while thousands of application under the Forest Right Act is pending through out the state the Govt is not issuing pattas to the tribals. Instead the forest officials are targeting and harassing the tribals for exercising their right over forest land. It will be better to mention that last year tribal people of this area have occupied more than 80 acres of forest land under the leadership of LSM to make their houses. Other speakers like Com. Kushnath Pradhan, state president, LSM, Com. Raghunath Nayak, Gen secretary and Com. Krushna Pradhan, block president of LSM presided over the meeting.
