Pune – Social Roots of Violence Against Women, a talk by Prof Uma Chakravarti, Jan 5

On the occasion of Savitri Bai Phule Jayanti, Lokayat organises a Talk by Prof Uma Chakravarti on

Social Roots of Violence Against Women

Recently, there was a heinous rape case against a young girl in Delhi. But even as thousands of young boys and girls came out on the roads to protest the rape case on the streets of Delhi and several other towns across the country, the newspapers reported several more rape cases. The reality is that a rape is committed on a woman every half an hour in the country. Obviously, it is not just enough to demand stronger punishment for rapists and fast track courts, there must be a serious questioning in society regarding the social roots of violence against women.

In this background, Lokayat is organising a talk by the renowned feminist historian, Prof. Uma Chakravarti.
